KN Provenance and Event History

For those not able to acquire one of the original 33 MG K3 models, a limited number of high-quality replicas have been constructed by leading specialists. This example was completed in 2015 by Baynton Jones and is one of only five such builds, reputedly costing in excess of £200,000. Built on a KN chassis and incorporating original factory components including the engine, it achieves the correct proportions and stance associated with the original cars, finished with an accurate slab fuel tank body.

Acquired by the current owner in December 2016, the car has been properly exercised and proven in use, including participation in events such as the Flying Scotsman Rally. This level of use reflects both the quality of the build and the confidence it inspires over extended distances.

Supercharged Six-Cylinder Performance and Transmission

Power comes from the 1087cc six-cylinder engine fitted with a Marshall supercharger, delivering lively and engaging performance in keeping with the original MG K3 driving experience.

The pre-selector gearbox, rebuilt by Tom Dark for the current owner, offers intuitive operation and suits both spirited driving and longer touring, making it well suited to a variety of uses including competition events.

Usability and Practical Touring Features

A key strength of this example is its usability. In addition to aero screens, the car is fitted with a full windscreen, allowing for the fitment of a hood and making it considerably more practical in variable weather conditions.

Further thoughtful details include a detachable steering wheel to aid access when hooded and an adjustable driver’s seat, a rare and valuable feature in a pre-war style competition car. The result is a car that feels light, responsive and engaging, while remaining usable for regular driving.
