The Atalanta Legacy and RGS Innovation
The Atalanta name first appeared in 1937 under the HGS banner, named for founders Hamill, Gough, and Scott. Rebranded shortly after to avoid confusion with HRG, pre-war Atalantas were among the most exclusive cars of their time. Only 22 were built, many powered by Lincoln V12 engines, securing their reputation as elite British sports cars.
Post-war, Dick Shattock revived the Atalanta spirit with RGS Atalanta in 1951, pioneering fiberglass technology in automotive design. Shattock’s company was the first in the UK to commercially produce fiberglass body shells, a revolutionary innovation. RGS Atalanta supplied early TVR models and Buckler sports cars, leaving an indelible mark on British motoring.
GEG532 is a prime example of this legacy, featuring an advanced chassis and MG running gear. First owned by Mr. Prior of Bury St. Edmunds, it was raced extensively in the 1950s and ’60s, earning wins and podium finishes in prestigious events like the BRDC and VSCC 50s Sports Cars.
Rediscovery and Revival
After its competitive debut, GEG532 spent decades in storage near Snetterton before being rediscovered in 1988. Peter Wardle and Malcolm White breathed new life into the car, racing it until 2004. During this time, the car competed in multiple historic events, proving its enduring capabilities on the track.
Painstaking Restoration and Modern Enhancements
In 2004, GEG532 underwent a full restoration, including chassis work and a lighter GRP body designed for agility. Its engine was later rebuilt by MG Motorsports in 2013, ensuring its power and reliability meet modern expectations.
Though not road-registered, GEG532 has excelled in demonstration events, offering a dual-purpose setup with a passenger seat. This unique configuration invites owners to share the thrill of historic motoring, whether on the track or as part of a collection.
