Ownership and Provenance
First registered in March 1928. The 1933 logbook confirms that the first owner was a Mr Harrison Townsend. Harrison was a designer with Hartland Wolf at the Albert Docks. During the war Harrion was badly injured by flying glass from a V2 rocket, spending two and a half years recovering before returning to his beloved Yorkshire after the war. The car soon fell into disrepair and he kept the car utilising it for spares for his family Austin 7, military edition.
In 1998, On the eve of her 70th birthday, the remains of the car, along with the military A7 were transferred to the new ownership of Charles Knill-Jones, who was then associated with Nick Mason’s Ten Tenths collection. Charles then sold the Gordon England to Graham Little. At that time, Little’s collection included a Bugatti Type 35B, and the Gordon England was given a new lease of life under this new ownership. A fresh body was commissioned from Mark Hofton, while the mechanicals were carefully rebuilt to match.
Body Restoration and Mechanical Work
The quality of the rebuild continues to stand out today. Since 2017 the Gordon England has been with her fourth custodian from new, who has kept thorough records of ongoing maintenance.
